Together with my PhD colleague Clau Di Gianfrancesco, we have designed this workshop, which aims to create a space to think collectively about academic knowledge production, inviting alternative modes of creating knowledge using multiple senses and artistic processes, allowing participants to engage in open-ended un-goal oriented, creative conversations. We explore primarily, but not exclusively, participatory techniques for the Theatre of the Oppressed, using games and exercises to think with and through the body.
Using participatory and creative methods we attempt to trouble the power dynamics and the divide between researcher and participants while reflecting on how to negotiate ethical challenges, especially working and doing research with communities impacted by various forms of marginalisation.
We held the workshop at the ESRC student conference in 2023, as well as at an inner-departmental seminar and in a more private setting. We are currently working on turning the material from the workshop into a zine.
